Where to Find Fish on Windy Days

Benjamin Franklin once wrote, “‘In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” The latter of those certainties has been one of three projects that has kept me from writing this week. The other two projects should finish up this weekend. I’ve got some drafts I’m finalizing in the next few days so I’ll be posting again soon.

In the meantime, I saw a post by fishaholic Matt of Coloradocastersblog that can be helpful to many anglers. He gave some good advice about how to fish on windy days, or just in water with current.

Matt points out that fish, like most animals, are lazy. They will take the path of least resistance for the most gain. When there is a lot of wind creating current in the water, the fish will have to swim against the wind to stay in one spot. One way to do this with less effort is to hide behind a shelf. The bonus of this wind shield is that bait fish will be carried right over it. So it also becomes a great ambush spot. Matt’s friend Don used this to his advantage and caught a monster bass.

I recommend that you read Matt’s post as it has some great information with great illustrations (one of which I stole for this post) of his friend’s technique. Not to mention great fish porn of the bass Don caught.

See you in a couple of days.
