The night before, Ken and I had intended to go to the channel on the North side of his cousin’s island where I caught some smallies the first night of Memorial Weekend, but because of our time spent at our favorite hole, we didn’t get a chance to get there. We decided to try the next morning.
We got a late start and it was pretty windy. We drifted through the channel made by Ken’s cousin’s island and the next island, but didn’t catch anything on my white fluke, or Ken’s short, deep diving Rapala. It was nice and shallow and had lots of rocks, though, so it would be a good spot to try another time.
We came out of the channel and followed the wind to the shore of Young’s Island. Ken caught a small smallmouth with his Rapala. I didn’t get anything.
It was a bit hard to control the boat in the wind, so we motored back to Ken’s bay to try the East end where the wind was theoretically blowing all the bait fish. But we didn’t get anything. It was just too windy.
I’m going to have to do some research to figure out where the fish might go under such conditions. The wind was blowing at a good 10-15 mph. It later produced white caps on the lake. But the wind helped us take down a 50 ft pine tree later that morning.
