Mr. Ice Fishing

When you mention the word “technology,” computers and electronics generally come to mind. But each field has technology that advances its industry to make things easier and more efficient. Ice fishing is no different.

When you talk about technology in ice fishing, you have to talk about Dave Genz. He is widely considered the grandfather of modern ice fishing. He developed the clam shell design for temporary ice fishing shelters, the caddy for Vexilar fish finders (now known as the Genz box), the short ice fishing rod, and countless jigs and baits specific to ice fishing. These are just a few of the contributions Genz has made to the sport.

Now that I’ve become (somewhat of) an ice fisherman, I wanted to tip my hat to the man that made my excursions on the ice possible. Thank you, Dave Genz, for making winters in Minnesota a lot more enjoyable.
