I saw my first open water near the shore of one the bigger lakes yesterday. The ice lost its grip on shallow ponds almost a week ago. I’ve been seeing a lot of ducks hanging out on those ponds.
So with ice fishing season over, it’s time once again to do an ice season review. Looking back at last year, I actually got out one day less. It felt like I got out a lot more, but I think that was just because I had a lot more action this year.
Days fished: 6
Fish caught: 22 (5 perch, 17 crappie)
Two outings with 7 or more fish.
One of those outings was with Mark where he more than tripled my total. I should have caught more fish that day, but my inexperience kept me from landing as many as he did. Hopefully, I’ll be able to keep up with him next year with my newly learned technique.
January was completely void of fishing this year due to other commitments and next year will likely be the same. But I still hope to get out with my neighbors often next season.
The focus now turns back to my comfort zone. I still have nearly two months to wait before bass season, but I may hop over to WI where the bass season starts a few weeks earlier in order to curb my withdrawal. I may even try some shore fishing for panfish this month. Who knows what could end up on my line. Crappie bite on creature baits, don’t they?
Congratulations
