Amazing Bass Video

Posted by MNAngler On April - 7 - 20104 COMMENTS

April is a slow month for fishing in Minnesota because the only species in season are panfish and rough fish. Until I find the best place to go after these off-season species, I have to find something to ramble on about lest you get bored and wonder off. Since I’m daydreaming/night dreaming/pretty much all-the-time dreaming about catching bass, I wanted to show you a cool video. About two months ago, Tyler Brinks posted a very interesting video on his blog showing a fisherman catching a largemouth... (more...)

World Record Largemouth Bass

If you’re even remotely into bass fishing, you know that Manabu Kurita of Japan caught a largemouth bass in July that was widely believed to be a new world record. The results were made official late last week and he was given a tie with the world record set 77 years ago. Field and Stream reported that it weighed one ounce more than the old record, but International Game and Fish Association regulations require new world records of fish 25 pounds or less to weigh two ounces more than the previous... (more...)

Goals for 2010

Welcome to 2010! The beginning of each year brings New Year’s resolutions. I’m not much for resolutions as they tend to become broken promises. However, goals are more realistic and give you something to strive for. Here are mine for 2010: Fish 40 days out of the year (28 in 2009) Have patience to try new lures and new techniques Start float tubing Catch an average of 1.5 fish per day (1.04 in 2009) Catch an 18″ Smallmouth Bass (2009 best: 15″) Catch an 18″ Largemouth... (more...)

Year in Review: 2009

Thanx to my diligence in using FishSwami this year, I have a summary of my fishing excursions for 2009. Here are the results: Days Fished: 28 Fish Caught: 29 Locations Fished: 7 Patterns Fished: 6 Most fish caught in one day: 3 on June 14th Northern Pike: 10 Smallmouth Bass: 9 Largemouth Bass: 7 Walleye: 1 Muskie: 0 These probably aren’t very impressive numbers to you hard-core anglers, but I’m happy with them. Of course I would have liked to catch more (and bigger) fish, but the best... (more...)

Oh, Brother!

Oh, Brother!

A few weeks ago, I got an email from my brother, who is also an avid angler. It was about the time I wrote the Fitovers sunglass review and he remarked that I was really getting desperate for things to blog about. He said I needed to go fishing more. Of course, he was right. The problem, though, was that October was a really horrible month for weather in Minnesota. It rained something like 23 out of 31 days. And the nice days had to be spent either working my day job or raking wet leaves. Time... (more...)

Date: 10/4/2009 Time: 1:45pm-4:45pm Body of water: Lake Owasso Location: Shoreview, MN Weather Conditions: overcast I was coming home from an errand run Saturday afternoon when I saw my fishing buddy, Mark, on the phone in his driveway. He had put a hole in the lower unit of his boat a few weeks ago and I wanted to see whether it had been fixed, but didn’t want to interrupt his call. So I parked the car and got a call from my wife. As I walked to my front door, I saw Mark standing there... (more...)

Date: 9/24/2009 Time: 5:30pm-7:30pm Body of water: Marion Lake Location: Lakeville, MN Weather Conditions: mostly cloudy I hadn’t been fishing since the neighborhood outing MORE THAN A MONTH AGO. It was driving me crazy. Yes, I went fishing in North Carolina, but it just wasn’t the same. Too unfamiliar. I finally got to go fishing tonight. My buddy Matt sold his boat a few weeks ago, but he’s one of the best fishermen I know that can find fish while fishing on shore. We had... (more...)

He said he tried to call me at about 9:30am to go fishing, but I never received his call. It turned out to be a good thing because it started pouring rain shortly thereafter. But he was interested in going out that afternoon. He... (more...)
