We were headed up to Ken’s cabin for a week of fishing and deck building. I took the afternoon off and we were supposed to be on the road by 2pm so I would be able to do some fishing before sundown. We got a late start on our drive up, so I thought it would be too late to get on the lake by the time we got to our destination. We arrived at 8:30 and it was getting dark, but still light enough to go out.

My in-laws said it had been misting all day, sometimes so much it was like a fog. It was still misting a bit when we arrived, but it didn’t feel wet enough to keep me from going out.

I just wanted to hit a few spots in our bay since the wind was coming from the West into the bay. I thought it might push some fish in. I hit the neighbor’s shore and followed it East. I casted with a super fluke, trolled a little with a Rebel crayfish, and when that hit bottom, I opted to troll with a watermelon lizard that hovered more near the surface.

Even though the weather was gloomy, it was quite and peaceful. There were no bites, but I really didn’t expect to catch anything. Sometimes fishing is more about enjoying nature than catching fish. It was good to just be out on the water.
