Ken and I got a pass from working on the raised walkway to fulfill The Mission. We first needed to tour our bay for a line with a bobber that had broken off a cane pole that morning. We were looking for the bobber and decided to fish the bay a bit as we went.
I first tried white pearl and bubble gum flukes at the neighbors’ reeds. My bubble gum fluke produced bubbles on the surface as if a fish was trying to strike, but missed. I never felt anything.
Since we didn’t see the bobber, we took off for Young’s Island. It was overcast and windy (coming from the South), so we decided to go to a quiet bay Ken knew of on the South side of the lake. This was a bold move since we have never fished there, but it could have also been a genius move.
We got to the bay which was basically mainland hidden by a couple of islands. It wasn’t far from where we were a few nights ago. I got two hits on that first shore: one on a bubble gum fluke and another strong hit on a white pearl fluke, but neither of them held on enough for me to hook them. The sun eventually came out and it was starting to be a really nice day.
We rounded the corner and tried in another little bay with no luck before we determined it was time to go home. We had been out for two hours, after all, and the wives were probably wondering what we were doing out so long. Either we were getting lots of fish, or no fish. Unfortunately, it was the latter.
