Christmas in April

Christmas in April

Thanks to a blog contest put on by The Hunter’s Wife last month, I got to experience the Christmas Spirit in March. I waited and waited for a sale that finally came this week. So the Spirit continued into April. The sale I waited for was for a particular rod and reel combo, but when I went to buy it, I determined that it wasn’t really the quality I wanted. After struggling with new choices and discovering that I really couldn’t spend what I wanted to, I decided to scale back... (more...)

Need Advice on Baitcast Reels

So the Dick’s Sporting Goods sale I’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. As some of you know, I’ve been waiting for their annual fishing sale so that I could pick up the Quantum Code rod and reel combo I’ve been lusting after since last fall. I have credit, a gift card, and 20% off coupon that I’ve been itching to use. But when I went to my local store this weekend, I had second thoughts. Here’s why: When I got to my local store, it took me a while to find... (more...)

Bad Luck Charm

Mark had the day off again and, of course, went fishing. He went to the same lake we fished last weekend. He landed his limit of crappie and caught and released 7 bass, 7 northern, and two muskie. It appears I took the wrong day off. He did almost as well the week before with our neighbor. When I’m out with him, we catch nearly nothing. If this keeps up, I’m going to get a complex. Review: Fish Swami

Review: Fish Swami

I started this blog as a fishing log of sorts to record where I fish, what I fished with, and what I caught. A few months afterward, I stumbled upon an article about fishing logs. The article said I should just do a web search for ‘fishing log’ (now why didn’t I think of that) to find free logs on the web. The first entry from Google was Fish Swami. I was very impressed with how well the site was put together. It was intuitive and easy to use. Within minutes, I was entering... (more...)

Keeping a Fishing Log

Keeping a Fishing Log

Why keep a fishing log? Because it will help you catch more fish. And what angler doesn’t want that? We humans learn by recognizing patterns. When we encounter a situation a more than once, we remember what works and what doesn’t and act accordingly. Experience is a valuable tool because people that have done something a lot will probably have encountered a situation before and know what to do if the situation occurs again. Fishing is no different. But when we’re fishing, there... (more...)

Where to Find Fish on Windy Days

Benjamin Franklin once wrote, “‘In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” The latter of those certainties has been one of three projects that has kept me from writing this week. The other two projects should finish up this weekend. I’ve got some drafts I’m finalizing in the next few days so I’ll be posting again soon. In the meantime, I saw a post by fishaholic Matt of Coloradocastersblog that can be helpful to many anglers. ... (more...)

Think Like A Fish

Posted by MNAngler On April - 10 - 20104 COMMENTS

The great thing about the being part of the flog community is that if I don’t teach you something, somebody else will. And if you miss it, I can pass it on. The moral of the recent post by Kramer Gone Fishing is simple: Look for something different. I can’t say it any better than he does. Read his article: You already think like a fish… Share this:FacebookTwitterRedditEmailLike this:Like Loading... Read More →

Amazing Bass Video

Posted by MNAngler On April - 7 - 20104 COMMENTS

April is a slow month for fishing in Minnesota because the only species in season are panfish and rough fish. Until I find the best place to go after these off-season species, I have to find something to ramble on about lest you get bored and wonder off. Since I’m daydreaming/night dreaming/pretty much all-the-time dreaming about catching bass, I wanted to show you a cool video. About two months ago, Tyler Brinks posted a very interesting video on his blog showing a fisherman catching a largemouth... (more...)
