My family decided to go on a fishing outing with me, so I got all the gear together, got us in the boat, and shoved off. I got the kids all set up and as I got ready to get my own pole, I realized I didn’t have any of my lures with me. In my haste to get us going, I forgot them on shore. I managed to find a larger version of a beetle spinner that I could use, so I attached it to my line.
The boat was only a few feet from shore and I could see a ton of fish swimming around. I dropped the beetle spinner into the fray, jigging it along. It was big enough that smaller fish didn’t pay much attention to it. I jigged it in front of one of the larger fish and as soon as it went in for a nibble, I set the hook. I pulled up a 12″ sunfish!

I don’t know where I was. I didn’t recognize the shore, or even the boat. My memory of the whole thing is a bit fractured, because… it was a dream. I woke up after catching the slab of a sunfish.
It was nice to feel the tug on a pole, even in a dream. I really need to wet a line.
[Author’s note: the picture above is of an actual sunfish that my brother caught in Colorado.]
You got me there! I was biting this story all the way. Sounds like you need to get out, and, come to think of it, so do I.
Did I get you hook, line, and sinker? 🙂
It was a bit of a harsh awakening for me, too, Mel. I’m planning to do some fishing this weekend over our Fishing Opener. Hopefully, they’ll be some pics to show for it. Hopefully, you’ll get out soon, too.
