Minnesota Fishing Opener

It’s about 12:30am on May 14, 2011. The crazies truly dedicated are already on lakes across the state drowning worms, leeches, and minnows pursuing the ever elusive walleye. Others will be on the lake by 4 or 5am.

Traditionally, this day has always been a big deal in Minnesota. It’s in our blood. It’s in our psyche. (Are you listening, BassProShops?)

Me? I was going to head to my dad’s place in WI where the catch and release bass season opened last weekend. Bass season doesn’t open in Minnesota for another two weeks. But alas, Mother Nature had other plans. The weathermen predicted rain all weekend at my dad’s place, so there was no point in going. Bass hunting will have to wait.

With rain predicted here in town as well, I get to spend the weekend helping my wife clear out our basement for a garage sale we’re having in a few weeks. It’s supposed to clear up on Sunday, so maybe I’ll get a chance to wet a line then. We’ll just have to see.
