Dry Spell

Posted by MNAngler On August - 1 - 2011

My July was horrendous, fishing-wise. The Minnesota weather really put a damper on fishing opportunities. Other than my July 4th weekend on the Gunflint Trail, I only got out one other time. I tried float tubing on a new lake in the Twin Cities Metro a few weekends ago and came away with nothing. Not even a bite. All other weekends were just too damn muggy. On more than one occasion, it was more humid here than in the tropical rain forest.

In fact, the news just reported that we had 98 hours of dewpoints over 75 degrees. Our average is 18 hours. The previous record was 78 hours. It’s been a muggy July to say the least.

Hopefully August will work out better. I’ve got a few opportunities lined up and hope my luck improves. I can’t seem to be able to entice minnows these days, let alone lunkers. And yes, I know, having a bad attitude doesn’t help. It seems like I’m excited to get out, but within 10 minutes, I get discouraged and start switching baits too soon and too often.

Time to get back my patience. Time to get back my confidence. Time to land a lunker.

What do you do when you get in a slump?

Anytime you want to come up, in the last week 10 mins from the house we’ve caught 16″-18.5″ beauties! Really great fishing right now.
