In my most recent Mystery Tackle Box, I received a package of 5″ Sick Sticks from PowerTeam Lures. In it, was a packet of “Hog Tonic,” basically a scent packet. The instructions told me to empty the scent packet of “garlic and amino acids” into the package, wait a few minutes, “then hang on!” While I was out on a recent outing, I followed the instructions and… damn. When I woke up Sunday morning, I debated whether I should get up and go fishing, or enjoy the comfort of my bed. Given that fall arrived in Minnesota recently and temperatures weren’t going to get any warmer, I decided to go for it. One of the reasons I decided to get up was the decision to not bother with my float tube. I was going to shore fish at a local reservoir where no one is allowed on the water. Before George came into town, Greg and I had made an appointment to go fishing earlier this week. As a result, I got to go fishing twice in three days. In this outing, Greg and I decided to hit a lake in the East end of the Twin Cities. The bass are catch-and-release only, so there have been rumors of monster bass in the lake. However, in my three previous outings on the lake, I’ve pulled nothing out. I was out on my float tube all three times so I was limited to one part of the lake.... (more...)
George popped into town unexpectedly this weeekend to visit his mom and a few relatives. He was able to plan a fishing outing with Greg and Greg’s son and asked me if I wanted to tag along. Far be it for me to refuse fishing time, especially since I haven’t wet a line for two weeks. We hit a lake in the Northern suburbs where Greg and I had tried earlier this summer. A week after my last float tube outing, I decided to head back out to the same lake. I wanted to try the other direction from the launch. The wind was blowing toward that shore, so that was a good sign. However, to force myself to cover more ground, I decided to go across the lake and work my way back around. Three years ago, almost to the day, I did a review on the Hobie Mirage Pro Angler. At the time, it had just been announced at ICAST 2009 and won an award for best new product. Last year, I was contacted by the marketing manager, Ron, at HiTempo, the local Hobie dealer to try out the newest version of the fishing kayak. He said several of my complaints had been addressed.
