A week after my last float tube outing, I decided to head back out to the same lake. I wanted to try the other direction from the launch. The wind was blowing toward that shore, so that was a good sign. However, to force myself to cover more ground, I decided to go across the lake and work my way back around.
While I crossed the lake, I didn’t want to lose any fishing time. Since I heard the lake had pretty sizable Northern, I threw a five of diamonds as I went across. When I got to the other side, I tossed the lure one last time, but something felt funny about how it left my rod. I reeled back and my braided line had been cut. I must have hit the zipper on the storage pouch of my tube.
I retied a swivel and attached a Zoom super vibe speed craw that worked for me in my last outing. First cast–bam! It turned out to be a small 9-incher, but a good sign nonetheless.

Unfortunately, nothing else would bite the speed craw. I worked the shore with speed craws and worms. I finally got some nibbles on the crawfish orange swirl worm. I missed a few bites, but scored another 10″ at the West end of the lake. That was all the action I had for the few hours I was out. I did, however, see my fellow angler again.

A pretty disappointing outing, but I like the lake because it is small, close to home, and has little fishing pressure (from what I can tell). I haven’t given up yet.
