I’m a little late with this news because I haven’t been trolling forums as much in recent months. Back in late October, a couple of muskie hunter old-timers caught a monster muskie that may be the new Minnesota record. Just like Kyle Anderson from Michigan, the pair was more interested in releasing the lunker in good health rather than get it weighed and certified on land. The good news in this case was that they were successful. I didn’t get a chance to do any muskie hunting... (more...)
World Record Largemouth Bass
If you’re even remotely into bass fishing, you know that Manabu Kurita of Japan caught a largemouth bass in July that was widely believed to be a new world record. The results were made official late last week and he was given a tie with the world record set 77 years ago. Field and Stream reported that it weighed one ounce more than the old record, but International Game and Fish Association regulations require new world records of fish 25 pounds or less to weigh two ounces more than the previous... Equal Opportunity Angling
Fellow anglers in the blogosphere have been commenting today and yesterday about the decision by BASS to eliminate the WBT. I completely agree with BassFishingDem in his feelings on the matter. It promotes our passion and helps develop technology to make us all better anglers. But it should also show that fishing isn’t just for men. Ladies... (more...)
Kayakers Beat the Motors

While there are pro fishing competitions where all the competitors are in kayaks, how well do you think they would do in a competition against 250 HP bass boats? Three buddies found out. Keith Gelhar, a fishing guide in Wisconsin, convinced the Great Lakes Sport Fisherman Club to let he and his friends compete in the club’s fish-in tournament. Three kayaks would be considered... New Michigan State Muskie Record
Kyle Anderson of Rapid City, MI caught a 55 inch, 50 lb 8 oz muskie on September 27, 2009 on Torch Lake in Michigan. It looks to be a new state record. Photo, left, was taken by David Rose of Field and Stream magazine. It’s great to see a dedicated fisherman like Mr. Anderson get rewarded for all the time he spends on the water (he fishes every day). What was most impressive to me is that even with such a great catch, he set personal gain aside and tried to release the monster. He was more... (more...)
