Relaxing Fall Morning

When I woke up Sunday morning, I debated whether I should get up and go fishing, or enjoy the comfort of my bed. Given that fall arrived in Minnesota recently and temperatures weren’t going to get any warmer, I decided to go for it.

One of the reasons I decided to get up was the decision to not bother with my float tube. I was going to shore fish at a local reservoir where no one is allowed on the water. Unfortunately, when I got there, the only road to the reservoir was closed. I almost took it as a sign to not fish at all, but since I was up, I went back home and got my tube and waders.

I put in at the lake I caught my personal best largemouth earlier this summer. I had been wanting to try our honey-hole with the tube. It took about 15 minutes to get out there and I quickly determined that having a guide to put me on the fish was a definite plus. That, along with the stiff wind, prompted me to fish the shore instead. Unfortunately, none of the fish near shore (if there were any around), weren’t interested in anything I was throwing.

Two hours later and all I got was a small nibble. It was a waste of an effort, but not a waste of a morning. I need to make a shirt that says, “I went fishing all I got was a leisurely morning.” Still, relaxing on the water on a beautiful fall day isn’t all bad. The fishing should pick up here shortly.
