The next night, Ken took my kids out on the pontoon and I took George and his wife out on the fishing boat. Since she was coming along, I thought I would get us some action and took them out to Ken and I’s secret fishing spot where there is always fish.
When we got there, another fisherman was in the bay, so we went to the bay next door to cast for a few minutes while we waited for him to leave. We only had to wait 10-15 minutes.
We snuck into the bay and hit the hole with a white pearl fluke, bubble gum fluke and torpedo. Nothing was biting. One of my hooks got exposed and hit a snag, so after a few more casts, we went in to retrieve it and disturbed it too much to have gotten any more hits. We did, however, see a little turtle in the shallow area. That was a bonus for George, who loves turtles.
Having no luck at my secret spot, we fished the South shore of Kloek island on the way home. I cast with my magic lure and George used the beetle spinner he landed a 14″ smallie with a few nights before.
It was a bit windy so casting didn’t feel like it would get me much that night. I switched to trolling with a Rebel crayfish, but just minutes after I did that, George got a hit right in front of a tilted tree. It was a nice 16″ smallie. I trolled a little while longer, but went back to casting before getting to the end of the island. I ended up with nothing.
I bowed to George as the new Bassmaster.
