Kayakers Beat the Motors

I was just recently turned on to kayak angling as a subculture, due to my interest in the Hobie Mirage Pro Angler. While there are pro fishing competitions where all the competitors are in kayaks, how well do you think they would do in a competition against 250 HP bass boats? Three buddies found out.

Keith Gelhar, a fishing guide in Wisconsin, convinced the Great Lakes Sport Fisherman Club to let he and his friends compete in the club’s fish-in tournament. Three kayaks would be considered one “boat.”

They didn’t do so well in the first few tournaments, but last August, they blew away the competition hauling in 126 pounds of fish.

If that doesn’t legitimize kayak angling, I don’t know what does.
