In the spirit of the season and in keeping with the topic at hand, I created this new twist on a familiar poem. Enjoy.
‘Twas the night before Fishing Opener
And all through Minnesota
Not an angler was sleeping
Not even a wink
The slip bobbers were rigged
The lindy rigs, too
In hopes that Mr. Walleye
Was hungry for food.
The minnows and leeches
Were all purchased fresh
They have to be lively
Mr. Walleye expects no less
Mama will keep sleeping
As I get up at four
To launch and park the trailer
Lest I be fishing from shore
I toss out my line
And wait for a bite
My dream will come true
When I pull that line tight
So with a tick-tick on the line
I let the line out
And wait an eternity
Because it isn’t a trout
I finally set the hook
And am excited to find
That the line had some weight
And started a fight
A few minutes later
Man was the winner
The battle concluded
We’ll have fish for dinner
Another Opener over
Everyone of them is special
A lot of memories made
Because it’s so social
And at the end of the night
I heard an angler exclaim,
“Happy opener to all! Keep your lines tight!”
Congratulations

Not the first time I’ve seen this adapted for fishing, but it is the first time I’ve seen it about walleyes…good work my man.
My favorite:
“A few minutes later
Man was the winner
The battle concluded
We’ll have fish for dinner”
In Minnesota, it’s all about the walleye.
Thanx for the compliment comment.
